Urangutans and spider webs!

It always begins with a mark . this is my first reference that I relate everything to, when completing the portrait. It's like a SPIDERS WEB...… the drawing gets bigger and bigger, weaving lines which criss and cross until the form is created.

This is what I love about charcoal, it is such a tactile medium. You can create texture and weight of fur with the slightest of hand, as the charcoal dances across the surface of the paper.

The portrait was created on Strathmore Toned Tan paper - a quality flex paper which is so forgiving when removing areas to lift the tone. The size of the paper was 18 x 24 inches and a real enjoyment to work on.
